FAQS

  • Is online tutoring effective? YES! I find many students prefer it! I work to create a comfortable tutoring session where students have fun, learn and ask questions. Being at home in a comfortable environment often helps students feel less pressure. Between zoom and screen sharing and interactive apps, online tutoring is very effective!

  • What is the cost of one-on-one tutoring and how do I pay? Tutoring is $80 an hour. Payment can be made via paypal (tutoringwithmscara@gmail.com) or venmo (@cara-bearden).

  • What is your cancellation policy? Cancellations up to 24 hours before the start of the tutoring session may be rescheduled or receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of the session may be rescheduled or will result in a 50% refund. No shows (20 minutes past the session start time) will result in a loss of the session fee.

  • How long have you been teaching? I have been teaching math in both private and public schools for 20 years. Read all about me here.

  • Why are you pricier than some other tutoring options? The short answer: experience! I know the math curriculum for middle and high school and can jump in and help any kid, at any time. I know where students should be, and how to help get them there, because I’ve been in the classroom for almost 20 years. I know the most common mistakes, misconceptions and learning gaps with math education. I have been teaching a long time and have taught a lot of students, and I pride myself on my ability to connect with them. I live for when a kid meets with me against their will and then leaves the session excited to see me again. Not only have I been a math teacher in public and private schools for a long time, I am a mom to a middle schooler which also gives me that perspective. I know what homework battles feel like, and how to help!
